The September Cake

Like I had planned in my September goals, I wanted to make an imprint of the Little Man's hand and foot. So I mixed up the plaster mix and then let it sit on the counter for a bit, figuring I would wait until just before bath time so he could wash it off right away. Well, I didn't realize the stuff hardens so quickly, so when I went back to it, it was hard as a rock. So I just had a flat round piece of plaster. I'll have to buy another kit soon and be faster this time!

 Here it is!

What a souvenir!

For the cake, I asked him what he wanted on it. He said blue icing with the word "September" on it, and a train track and a train and London Bridge and and and....I told him I was not a professional cake decorator and the detail he was requesting was becoming wedding cake worthy. I can only do so much.

Hubby drew the train tracks and stuck a train on it. I wrote September as best I could. We used the same vegan gluten free cake and icing recipes from last year.

We went to his class for his party and he was so happy. He said, "mommy and daddy, you are the best!" and I almost died of cute. Sometimes it's the little things you do that matter so much. Things as simple as writing "September" on a birthday cake.

Cake for Breakfast

Awww, Little Man took out his communication book, pointed to a picture of a cupcake and said, "eat?" Then he said, "cake." Luckily, I had two banana muffins left, so he got one for breakfast. I try to reinforce whatever communication he comes up with. To let him know he's understood, I give him what he asks for - even if that does mean "cake" for breakfast. It's ok. I also have a batch of pumpkin muffins in the freezer. I'll make some carrots ones and maybe chocolate zucchini. He's forced to eat veggies whether he likes it or not.

In other news, I converted the crib into a bed. He spent the first few days getting up but not opening the door to his room; just standing there knocking on it and saying, "out!"
Hubby opened the door and he said, "oh!" so now he knows he can open it, climb onto Mama and Dada's bed and sit on top of a tired Mama while giggling maniacally. Great. That's why I had hesitated in transitioning. It was great when he was locked up in the crib. However, he recently started jamming his legs through the bars in an effort to escape and he got wicked bruises.
So yeah, now he runs into my room at 9am or so. I need to get to bed earlier.

Music Class, Parc Safari and Birthdays

This Little Man has started some serious tantrums, holy crap! Terrible Twos, here we come!

He had his first music class today. The teacher said he seemed bored. The other kids looked scared or confused. Their daddies stayed with them the whole class. We're bad parents and left him alone there. When Hubby went to pick him up, he ran to him and said, "go, go, go!"
He did manage to have a conversation with a classmate before class though. Another boy saw his Thomas shirt, pointed and said, "choo choo!" The boy had one of those binkie bling chains and it had little cars, so the Little Man pointed at the cars and said, "vroom vroom." So they just looked at each other and said "choo choo" and "vroom vroom." (But seriously daddy, taking your two-year-old to music class with a binkie? Really?!)

So after saving him from music class, we had lunch and went to Parc Safari. A water buffalo or some giant creature with horns slobbered my window.
The ostriches stuck their heads in the car. I knew from last time to avoid the crazy mofo zebras. It's pretty messed up.

I let the Little Man "drive" and he got the washers going and all sorts of stuff.

Finally decided what to do for his birthday. I ordered a Gordon cake. I'm waiting to hear back from the cake maker (I got one of those group deals). It's just very particular because I don't want to end up with a Thomas cake - not that he doesn't like Thomas, he does - but he likes Gordon way more. Gordon's face is very different from Thomas' face. Omg, I sound like a crazy mom now, don't I?

Anyway, so in addition to the perfect Gordon cake, I'm just inviting super close friends and family. Like my mom and Hubby's best friend and that's it. His first birthday party was for me, now he gets all the others, but it's not like he knows the difference right now anyway. It's not like he has tons of friends. My friend's rule for her kids is one guest per kid's age. I like that idea.
