I found this link from Success, which I actually got through Leonie Dawson. This combines so many things I love - Jim Rohn and learning from children. If you don't know who Jim Rohn is, he was an American entrepreneur and motivational speaker. He just had a gentle way with his words that get his point across in all facets of life. If you're looking for some wisdom, do a search for his quotes and be inspired.

Here's a snippet of the article:

Be like children, and remember there are four ways to be more like a child no matter how old you get…
1. Curiosity
Be curious; embrace childish curiosity. What will kids do if they want to know something bad enough? You’re right. They will bug you. Kids can ask a million questions. You think they’re through, then they’ve got another million. They will keep plaguing you. They can drive you right to the brink. Kids use their curiosity to learn. Have you ever noticed that while adults are stepping on ants, children are studying them? A child’s curiosity is what helps them to reach, learn and grow.

Things No One Told Me

A compilation of things no one told me before I had a kid:

-It takes forever to do the simplest things. Simple things like eating a bagel or taking a shower now get interrupted constantly.
-I tell my husband lovingly romantic things before bed like, "watch out, there might be Thomas trains on your side," or "he peed a bit on the bed somewhere and I didn't get a chance to change the sheets, so here's a towel to lie on."
-It can be ridiculously difficult to keep a straight face or discipline when kids do something they're not supposed to but that is absolutely genius.
-That my son would sob and cry big tears when his favorite show on TV ends.
-If you really don't want to and work at it, you won't sound like your parents.
-You build up a tolerance to crying and screaming over time.
-Sometimes you have to pay to be alone.
-The love I feel for my child can be so powerful, it sometimes scares me.

What are your revelations?

There's No Instruction Manual

No nothing makes sense
Nothing seems to fit
I know you'd hit out
If you only knew who to hit...
-Acrobat by U2

I find since getting pregnant and then having a child, my life just hasn't gone quite as planned. Though, come to think of it, I'm no longer sure what my plans were. I think I thought some things would just flow easier and others would be harder and in reality, none of those things were the case!

I feel like I'm at a crossroads in a lot of ways: Do we adopt, or do I try to get pregnant? Do we worry about my child's weight and development, see more specialists or wait and see? Do I disclose all these things in a very public blog on the Internet? Do I start working for myself again?

I don't have a lot of answers right now, but I think the purpose of this post is to tell other moms and dads they're not alone. Your life changes completely when you have a child and not always in ways you'd expect. It's ok not to know what to do or where to go or how to get to the next point. It's probably ok to take it one day and a time and just keep plugging along.

The first thing my dad said when I told him I was pregnant is that, "we all do the best we can at the time and they don't come with an instruction manual."

I guess that's what I have to remind myself.

What little bits of wisdom help you through tough times with kids?
