Want iPad!

The Little Man with his addiction
I wasn't a big fan of the iPad when it first came out. I went for the cheaper Blackberry Playbook first. I liked it and aside from some hardware issues (had to return 3 before I got one that worked!) it is compact and durable - great for little destructive hands.

I did find a few decent apps, but started to learn there were many more educational apps, many specifically for autism, made for the iPad. By now I had more disposable income and decided, silly me, that I would get an iPad to share with the Little Man. I bought it and filled it with educational apps. Some stuff for me, but mostly stuff for him. Oh how naive I was!

Turns out the iPad quickly became his and frankly, I wasn't a fan of its size. When the iPad mini came out, I decided to buy myself one just for ME.
Now I guess we're both addicted.

Speaking of addicted, I tried to cut his usage down, so on Sunday morning he got bored and started saying, "want iPad, want iPad, want iPad, mama, want iPad, iPad READY!, want iPad, want iPad...." over and over again. Hey, at least he's talking!

I said, "no, Little Man, you are addicted!"

He got really angry at me and said, "not dicted!" and pointed to himself, "Little Man," he corrected me. He thought I had changed his name to Addicted and was VERY upset by this.
Omg, I have the cutest kid.

In the coming weeks, I'll be sharing reviews of our most addictive and helpful apps so I can get you hooked, too :)

You Have An Egg in Your Bum?

The Little Man is being his amazing charming self, talking more and clearer. We had this conversation when he piled all the pillows up on top of himself on the hotel bed while on vacation:

"See, look! Nest!" He points to himself.

"You're in a nest?" I ask.

"Ok" (Ok is how he says "yes")

"Are you a bird?"

"Ok"

"Do you have an egg?"

"Ummmm," he thinks, "ok!"

"Where is your egg, Little Man?"

"In bum!"

"You have an egg in your bum?!"

"Ok!"

This kid cracks me up every day!

Feverish Conversation

won't stop talking onequartermama
Over the last two months, the Little Man has been suffering from what seems to be one long virus that won't leave us.

We've had two episodes of fever - the first one was long-lasting but low. This second one is quite high and I'm hoping will only last a day or two. We've taken him to the doctor, but they just say it's the virus that's going around and we have to wait it out. (In between this time, we all got the flu shot, but I don't think it even had a chance to take effect with all this going on!)

Anyway, the funny side effect of the very high fever is the Little Man is talking up a storm. He just won't stop talking. It almost seems like he's drunk or manic. At least he's a happy drunk!

He comments on everything he sees. He says "hi" and "bye" when entering and leaving rooms. It just doesn't stop!

Rather than be annoyed though, I find it funny and quite like it. It gives us a chance to hear just how much he knows and to hear his sense of humour.

At the same time, I wish he didn't feel so crappy. It's no fun being sick, but he's such a trooper.

What weird things do your kids do when they have a fever?

A Mother and Son Conversation

walk mother and son conversation onequartermama

Watch this video to listen to a beautiful interview between a son and his mother.
It's simply sweet. The son happens to have Asperger's but that's not what makes it precious to me. It's the fact they can be so open and frank with each other. I hope to be able to speak with the Little Man like this, especially when he becomes a teen.
