Through Our Eyes - Living With Asperger's Out on DVD

You may remember, just last month I reviewed Alyssa Huber's new documentary called, "Through Our Eyes - Living With Asperger's."

It's available to order on DVD now.

You can still watch the mini-version for free on YouTube to give you an idea of what it's like, but the DVD is the full version. There's also a special edition version.

If that's not enough, a line from my review ended up on the DVD jacket, so it's obvious I totally endorse this documentary!

Watch it and let me know what you think!

16 Things You Should Never Say To Mixed Race People

It's been a while since I've covered any race issues and that's part of what this blog is all about! So I saw this video quite some time ago and posted it to my G+. Then I started getting ridiculous comments that I felt I should respond to. So watch the video first and then you can check out the comments below.

My YouTube/G+ responses to being asked about my race

So what do you think of my response? People seem to think that just because they are curious or confused by someone else's appearance they deserve some sort of explanation. I don't owe anyone an answer or explanation for my tattoos, my piercings, my sexual presentation, my colour, my disabilities, or any other aspect of my physical appearance.

Playing with Angry Birds

Today's post was a video I took this morning before getting ready to leave for our first dentist appointment. The Little Man loves making videos and showing people his toys. He makes stories up about them.

What Do You See?

Speaking of appearances, this is the video we made in protest of Autism $peaks most recent "call to action."

Hotel Room Cooking

Travel means you have to improvise sometimes. Improvisation becomes doubly important when you have a special need's child. Anyone will lives with a picky eater or someone with sensory issues knows they can have a really limited diet.

So being an experienced traveler, I usually travel with snacks, peanut butter, tea (can't live without it!) and an immersion heater.

If you don't know what an immersion heater is either I'm showing my age or you weren't raised by an Army dad.
Here's what one looks like:

It's really simple (and useful!) and I've shared some tips on what to do with them here.

I have an even more amazing piece of cookery and it's great for when you're staying at a hotel because most rooms already have one. Not a coffee pot, not a hair dryer, not even a microwave...I'm talking about an iron!

Watch my amazing IRON Chef skills in action with this ridiculous video. Also enjoy the hilarious banter between me and my hubby (aka, the camera man).

Winnie and Haha or Wallace & Gromit

My son has a stuffed dog he received from my mother when he was a baby. He named it "Ha ha" and it's his favourite.
On a side note, while I never thought naming a dog "Ha ha" was really odd, I was surprised to see this video with a boy who named his favourite stuffed monkey, "Ah ah." I guess it's just an easy sound for babies to make.

Watch this video and cry like a baby, then get back to me:
Seriously, it's worth it! Heartwarming!

My hubby had a Winnie the Pooh bear as a child that was his favourite. His parents sent our son a Winnie the Pooh bear thinking he would also like it. He didn't care much for it at first, but now that he can "read" letters, he seems to have taken a liking to it.

The Little Man is also really into Wallace & Gromit (just like his daddy is). Knowing Gromit is a dog, he has now decided that Ha ha is Gromit and Winnie the Pooh is Wallace (for some inexplicable reason).

He reads out all the letters on Winnie the Pooh's shirt:
W-I-N-N-I-E P-O-O-H
and then says, "that spells Wallace and Gromit!"

Just try correcting him on that. NEVER! lol

So here are Wallace & Gromit!

What Would You Do?

There are still some good people in the world.

This is a great video from the show What Would You Do? which puts actors in with regular unsuspecting people to see how they react to certain controversial scenarios.

This episode puts a family with an autistic boy in a restaurant, just trying to eat a meal. I was surprised and happy to see how people reacted. It made me cry - just a warning if you're at work/in public. Not that crying is wrong or bad! :)
